Bookish Blogging Events

LGBTMonth001

LGBT Month – April

I’ve been wanting to read more books with LGBT characters for a while and this event is the perfect time for it. There will be a read-a-long, twitter parties, giveaways, and discussion posts. I plan on reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and possibly also Two Boys Kissing, as well as participating in as many of the other activities as I can find time for. Sign-ups are here.

Bloggiesta! – March 27th-30th

I’m very excited for Bloggiesta this year, for a number of reasons. I always love the twitter chats and this year’s topics seem very helpful. I can’t believe I’m hosting a challenge giving people advice this year when it feels like not so long ago I was just starting a blog with no idea what I was getting myself into. And my blog needs lots of maintenance, so this will be a much-needed nudge pushing me to get things done. I’m going to be insanely overly-optimistic with my to-do list and then I’ll just come back later to what I don’t get to during Bloggiesta. Sign-ups are here.

Bloggiesta Goals

  • add a review policy page
  • brainstorm non-review post ideas (Blog Post Bingo mini-challenge)
  • update Dewey Decimal Directory of reviews
  • participate in at least one twitter chat
  • visit blogs of participants in my Book to Movie Challenge
  • visit blogs of participants in TLC book tours I’ve done
  • visit blogs of participants in other challenges I’m doing
  • make Non-Fiction Friday header
  • all social media mini-challenges (4/4)
  • PicMonkey mini-challenge
  • update Riffle account
  • make G+ header and otherwise spruce up G+ page
  • work on Pinterest boards
  • figure out if I want to do anything other than cross-post blog posts to G+ and facebook
  • add links to all social media sites to blog (perhaps design new logos)
  • update publisher contact list

Great list of goals! My list keeps growing as I visit other blogs, but I’m doing my best to keep it small and manageable. The mini-challenges all look so tempting this year, and congrats on hosting one of them! Good luck! :)

    • The mini-challenges do look good this year! I’m very excited to be hosting one and wish I had time to do all of the others. I’m sure I’ll revisit the ones I don’t get to during bloggiesta later :) Good luck with your goals too!

Thank you so much for signing up for LGBT Month! I hope you have a blast participating in both events. :D

Sounds like you are ready for Bloggiesta. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by it, but it will get done even if it’s not over the specified weekend.
I wish i had planned time for LGBT April. Hopefully some of the books i have planned already have some sexual diversity to them.

    • My blog is so very in need of attention! I really hope I’m able to spend some time on it this weekend. I’ve just started tracking statistics about the books I read this year, things like ethnic, gender and sexual diversity of character. I’ve noticed that genders tend to be balanced or skewed towards women without me even trying but I almost never pick up a book with an LGBT character by chance so I’m excited to work on picking them up intentionally in April :)

So many great events coming up! I hadn’t heard about LGBT month. I’ll have to see what I own that fits into that category. I just finished Other Voices, Other Rooms, which would’ve worked. Hmmmm….

Good luck with your Bloggiesta goals!

    • Great! I don’t if LGBT month will turn into a yearly thing, but I hope so, and I think Bloggiesta is twice a year so that are lots of opportunities to do that :)

  7. Terra

Impressive list! This is my first Bloggiesta so my list is a little smaller. I’m loving the mini challenges so far. I’ll have to look up yours next!

    • I made my list long knowing I would never get to all of it during Bloggiesta and I didn’t, but I did make a good start and I’m hoping the momentum will help me get the other things done over the next few weekends. Welcome to Bloggiesta! :)

  8. Monika @ Lovely Bookshelf

Oh gosh, I wish I weren’t already so swamped for April, I’d love to participate in LGBT month! If you want something on the T side, I highly recommend anything by Jennifer Finney Boylan or Helen Boyd. :)

I have a Riffle account and I never use it. I had not even thought about it in months. Thanks for the reminder. Congrats on getting things knocked off your list.

    • I don’t use my Riffle account much either but now that they’ve added reviews, I’m thinking of getting back into it. I hope you had a productive, fun bloggiesta too! :)
