Bout of Books 9.0: Introduce Someone to Your Favorite Genre

Bout of Books is a great way to interact with new bloggers so I thought it would be a fun chance for us each to introduce other bloggers to a genre we love. For this challenge, pick a book or a few books that you think would make a great introduction to your genre of choice. Leave the answer or a link to your post where you answered in a comment to be entered in the giveaway. The winner will get to pick any of the books someone recommended for the challenge to be sent to them from Amazon or The Book Depository. The giveaway is open to people anywhere Amazon or The Book Depository deliver and will close tonight at midnight CST.

Bookish Blogging Events

Doing Dewey - Drawer - 250x250 - 5-3-13I’m going to start this post by briefly talking about an exciting event here at Doing Dewey. I’ve gone self-hosted! With some googling, I’ve learned how to move my wordpress.com, e-mail, Bloglovin’, and feedburner RSS followers over. This post itself will be a test of whether or not that’s moved my feedly followers over or if they will have to move manually. Otherwise, everything is back to normal or better! Some of the features I’m most excited about are: embedded link-ups and rafflecopter giveaways; commentluv; e-mail alerts when I respond to comments; and the scroll bar below posts showing related content. Book to Movie Challenge Update

poster3Today I have a couple of exciting updates for this year’s Book to Movie Challenge. This year for the challenge, Sergio of Tipping My Fedora reviewed over 20 books and their movie adaptations while I’ve been working pretty hard to meet my goal of 12. So I thought, you know who should be co-hosting this challenge? Sergio. So I asked if he’d be interested and he said yes! That means that for two of the quarterly round-ups, Sergio will be doing posts updating you on how the challenge is going while I do the other two. Once the linky for adding reviews goes live next year, you’ll also be able to add reviews at a post on his blog as well as here at Doing Dewey.

Well, it’s that time of year again and if my list of challenges I’m considering was a pile of books it would look like that picture on the left. I love challenges! I want to do ALL of the challenges. And if I pick that many, I will be very stressed out later, so this is my preliminary list which I will narrow down before doing a sign-up post later. Bloggiesta Starting Line!

You guys! Today is the first day of bloggiesta and I’m so excited to get started! I don’t think I’ll get much done today since there’s work during the day and I’m having friends over tonight, but this weekend I’m going to get os much done. I do wish I’d been able to host a challenge but for some reason I wasn’t following The Bloggiesta blog (which you should definitely do!), but next time I will and it will be epic :) Here’s my current to-do list which I’ll update here as I go. Wish me luck and go have lots of fun with Bloggiesta!

To Do

  • get caught up on cross-listing posts to Goodreads, LibraryThing, and Cannonball Read V
  • work on re-categorizing posts
  • participate in Saturday and Sunday twitter chats
  • do at least six mini-challenges
  • write reviews for the six books I’ve read but not reviewed
