Alright, it’s time to wrap-up our March read-along! Thanks to everyone who’s been joining in. Honestly, I’m mostly relieved to be done with this one, but I’m not sorry I read it either. Although it was a tough read and doesn’t leave me with something I feel I can take action on, I do think it’s an important topic we should all be aware of. I just hope this makes this into the hands of people who can make more of a difference. Here are the discussion questions I’m pondering in the second half of the book: Read more »

#NFBookClub Missoula Discussion – Part 1

Well, so far, I’m finding this just as difficult of a read as I expected. It’s so, so frustrating to hear about the skepticism and mistreatment with which the authorities treat many rape victims. I honestly read the first half of this book as quickly as I could so I could put it down and pick up a palette cleanser! I hope the author offers some way in which he wants us to take action at the end, because otherwise, I’m not sure what the point is of going through such a tough read. If you’re reading along this month, feel free to join our google doc discussion here or answer the discussion questions below. And don’t forget to vote for our April read! To be announced on March 14th… Read more »

Well, I think we’re in for a tough read, but from everything I’ve heard, it should also be well written and worthwhile. Thanks for joining me! The google doc is posted here. The discussion questions will be posted on the following days:

And, as promised, the April poll is also below. Thanks to Rachel at Hibernator’s Library for the suggestion that we pick our read based on the fact that April is Autism Awareness Month and thank you to everyone for their great reading suggestions!

Wow, this book has left me wanting to know so much more about all of these women! I’ve said this a couple of places already, but I really think I need to buy a copy of this book and use it to inspire further reading. I hope you’ve all been as intrigued as I have been. #NFBookClub March Read-along Announcement

So, I might have fallen down on the job a little this month with hosting the Nonfiction Book Club and I owe a big thank you to Kim at Time to Read for reminding me we should have a book picked for March! Since I  forgot to post the March poll with the February book announcement, I’m going to make an executive decision on this one. Missoula got the second most votes in the February poll, so that’s what we’ll be reading in March. If you have any nominations for April, feel free to share them in the comments and this month, I’ll remember to post a poll to pick from your nominations! Thanks for humoring your absent-minded host 🙂 Here’s the schedule for the March read-along:

Hi everyone! I can only hope you’re enjoying this book as much as I am, because it’s been fantastic. It is one of those books that I want to run out and give to all my friends to read.  I’ve generally found the stories very inspiring, both the women’s accomplishments and the challenges they had to overcome. I’d love to learn more about all of them! Here’s the discussion going on the google doc and the questions on this first half of the books: Read more »

#NFBookClub Headstrong Read-Along Begins!

I know I tell you how excited I am for our nonfiction read every single month, but that’s because getting to read interesting nonfiction with all of you is always something I look forward to. I’m looking forward to this particular book even more because of a comment from Laura at Buttontapper about female geniuses throughout history. She made me think of how I occasionally learn about the impressive contributions of an obscure female scientist and that made me think about the bias against women receiving credit for the scientific work in the 1900s. I’m hoping this book will help me become a little more knowledgeable about the amazing work female scientists have done. The google doc for discussion is now available here.

#NFBookClub February Book Selection Poll

BookClubLogoMonth

Alright everyone! I’m excited to get back to our nonfiction read-alongs in the new year! I’ll leave the poll open for a week, so that everyone will have 2+ weeks to get the book before the beginning of the month and I’ll try to keep us that ahead of schedule the rest of the year. I’ve picked some newer books to include in the poll, so be sure to check if your library has each book if that’s how you want to get your copy. I can’t wait to see what you all pick!
