#NonFicReads18 Kick-off!

January 2, 2018 Uncategorized 16

Wow! I’m pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest in this challenge and excited to get started on a great year of reading nonfiction with all of you. Today, I’ve got a few small details to clarify and I’m posting the poll for our first group read. I also realized that I didn’t include my own goals for the challenge in either my challenge announcement or challenge sign-ups, so I’ll commit here to reading 40% nonfiction in 2018.

Twitter Chats

Thanks to a question from Laurie at Relevant Obscurity I realized that I hadn’t picked a hashtag for our challenge! We’ll be using #NonFicReads18. And just as a reminder, our first twitter chat will be Jan 14th at 1pm EST/10am PST.

Group Read Poll

Vote below for the book you’d like to have as our group read in the first quarter of 2018. You don’t have to read it to participate in the nonfiction challenge, but it’ll be a good book to read if you want to be able to discuss a book with other bloggers.

    This is a required question

And if there’s something else you’d like to see in the poll next time, please let me know in the comments below 🙂

The only book I’ve read of Roxane Gay’s is Bad Feminist, but I’ve heard her speak enough to know I want to read everything of hers. So many of her books, fiction and nonfiction, deal with tough topics, so I’m having a hard time making myself actually pick them up. And The Empathy Exams has been on my to-read list for a long time as well now 🙂

I’ve heard good things about it! I’m not big on books about sports, but I get that this story has more to it than that and I would guess a lot of us would like to pick it up. I’ll keep it in mind as an option for the next quarterly read!
