I’m just getting started with my readathon out here on the west coast. Getting up before 8am just didn’t seem like a good way to start a day of reading to me! But I’m excited to be hopping in now and will start with the hour one survey anyway 🙂 Then I’ll keep updating this post throughout the day.

Hour 5

Reading  – Earning It: Hard Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World for a TLC tour this week
Eating – about to make some oatmeal
Drinking – Water
Feeling excited to read some interesting stories in this book and to finally have internet so I can chat with all the other read-a-thoners!

Mini-challenge
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? San Jose, CA
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? The Unchangeable Spots of Leopards by Kristopher Jansma
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Cookies!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I’ve just recently finished my PhD, moved to CA to be with my husband, and started a great job at Agilent. That hasn’t left much time for reading so I’m excited to fit a lot in today
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? This is my 5th readathon, I think, and I don’t have plans to change much. I wish I’d stocked up on snacks a little more though!

Hour 6

Reading  – Earning It: Hard Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World
Eating – chocolate! (and so the snacking begins…)
Drinking – tea
Feeling a bit behind because of my late start! Good thing we have all day 🙂

Mini-challenge
I don’t read much poetry, but really enjoyed participating in the Happy Birthday Poem challenge. I thought Carnival of Souls was really beautiful.

Hour 9

Reading  – Earning It: Hard Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World
Eating – really delicious biscuits with butter!
Drinking – back to just water
Feeling cozy! Enjoying a warm blanket and cuddling with my husband and our cat.

Mini-challenge
The Bookish Memories reading challenge reminded me of a reading the fifth Harry Potter book while on vacation. It was one of the nicest, most relaxing family vacations I’ve been on!

Hour 12

Reading  – Just finished Earning It: Hard Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World  and picking my next read!
Eating – crackers and cheese
Drinking – Still water. I’m a boring drinker 🙂
Feeling ready to start a new book.

Hour 13

Reading  – The ballot – took a break to do some research with my husband and then fill out our ballots.
Eating – A sandwich and cookies!
Drinking – More tea.
Feeling like being pretty relaxed about the read-a-thon. I’ve been doing a lot more reading than usual, but less than usual for a read-a-thon. I know I’ll have a lot of time to read this coming week while my husband is travelling, so I’m doing a lot of spending time with him today.

Mini-challenge
For the Video-Game a Book Mini-Challenge I’m suggesting Ready Player One as a potentially good video game.

Hour 19

Reading  – Your Inner Fish – a fun book about what paleontology can tell us about human evolution
Eating – An omelette
Drinking – Hot apple cider, but not with the omelette, because that would be weird.
Feeling pretty tired! Even having started late, I’m not sure I’m going to make it. I’m trying to get my second wind.

Mini-challenge
I did the Book and a Beverage Mini-Challenge (see above) and the Readathon Recommendation Engine Mini-Challenge (I suggested The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty and Five Days Left by Julie Lawson Timmer for fans of Jodi Picoult).
