Long time no see, Katie! I enjoyed the first post you shared too, and the phrase “younger children no longer look to nonfiction as pleasure” really stuck out to me. Just as how parents pass down favorite fiction works to their kids, if the same thing was done with non-fiction works, maybe that’s the change that’s needed?

And I saw you adding “The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2014” on Goodreads – that one looks fun!

It has been a while! It sounds like you were very busy! I hope grad school is going well for you 🙂 I’ve just reached a critical time myself, trying to get a paper out and get ready for my A exam by the end of January, so I expect I might be dropping out for a while myself. It’s not quite crunch time yet, but my reading and blogging are definitely slowing down.

I just got approved for this one on NetGalley and I can’t wait to read it! For a while, I was reading a lot more fiction than nonfiction and I’m excited to start shifting the balance back a bit.

Also, I agree that parents sharing nonfiction with their kids could definitely help! I think parents also see nonfiction as non-fun or perhaps simply too difficult, so it doesn’t get shared as much.

Oops, just saw your comments today! Grad school’s going well, but definitely getting more stressful. These last few months I’ve been stuck with a “so many projects, so little time” mentality, but it’s slowly becoming more manageable now that my coursework is almost completed. Good luck on your paper and your A exam!!! 🙂

I totally used to be one of those people who connected non fiction with non-fun! Thank goodness I’ve seen the light, haha

😀 I’m really glad you’ve given it a try and been able to find some you like! I’m sure all nonfiction isn’t for everyone, just like fiction, but I think most people could enjoy it if they gave it more of a chance.
