Show An Author Some Love Bout of Books Challenge

BoB10-200x200Hello everyone and apologies for getting this post up late! I’m out of town and ended up forgetting to schedule my post in advance. Fortunately the lovely bloggers running Bout of Books have posted some of the challenge info but here are the giveaway details.

Challenge is now closed. Congrats to the twitter winner, Isa from Chasing Quills, and to the comment winner, Frida from Cortazaria.

Bout of Books is such a fantastic way to interact with and support other bloggers, I thought it would be nice to share that love with our favorite authors too. As described on the Bout of Books site, you can tweet about an author you love using the hashtag #showauthorlove. You can also share in the comments one thing you have done to show an author some love today, whether that’s writing a blog post about an suthor you love or following an author on social media. I will then use a random number generator to pick one winner from Twitter and one winner from the comments to each win a ten dollar gift card to Amazon or a book worth up to ten dollars from the book depository. Again thanks for your patience with the late post!

An author I love and probably not a lot have heard about, is Rudolfo A. Anaya, author of Bless Me, Ultima. He has some serious storytelling skills, just beautiful. I’m not a part of popular social media, but I’ve marked him as one of my favorite authors on my goodreads profile. :)

  2. Jessica @ Book Reviews from a Christian Gal

I followed Victoria Schwab on Twitter :)

  3. Jennine G.

I recently wrote a review of I Kill the Mockingbird and tagged the author (Paul Acampora) in my shares. And I followed him on Twitter!

I recently finished Cinder and Scarlet was one of my goals for Bout of Books (just finished it). Before reading the second one I looked up Meyer’s website and started following her on Pinterest.
Thanks for the challenge! It’s a great reminder to let authors know how much their works are enjoyed. :)

    • Wonderful! I’ve heard great things about Rowell, but I don’t read much in contemporary genre, so I haven’t managed to pick up one of her books yet. I’d like to though :)

  6. Nikki

I gave a shout-out to Ellen Hopkins on Twitter for her fantastic “Crank” series!

  9. Monika @ Lovely Bookshelf

I forgot to use #boutofbooks in my tweet, oops! But I did use #showauthorlove (for Theresa Shea).

I follow a bunch of authors, and interact with a few of them. But I really enjoyed showing some love to Nadia Bolz-Weber by recommending PASTRIX to April at The Steadfast Reader. :)

    • Not a problem! I’ll probably just be looking for the #showauthorlove hashtag, unless it seems to be being used by people outside Bout of Books. I’ve heard such great things about Pastrix from both you and April, I’ll definitely be looking to read it too :)

  10. Book Bunny

I just finished the Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and loved it so much I started to follow him on twitter :)

  14. Isa

Today I bought a copy of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe for my friend even though I can lend her my own copy because Benjamin Alire Saenz writes beautifully and I just wanted to support his work. I also love sending out book recommendations of my favourite authors like Patrick Ness, Melina Marchetta, Kirsten Hubbard and Hannah Moskowitz on tumblr. Thank you! :)

    • Aw, that makes me so happy! I adored Ari and Dante and I think it’s wonderful that you not only made sure someone else read the book, but went above and beyond and bought a second copy of the book to do so. Wonderful! :)

  15. p7 @ Bookeater/Booklover

To show some author love today, I figured I should use the opportunity this challenge provides me to update my following of some favorite authors on social media, since I totally suck at that. So I ended up visiting some authors’ Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr pages, if they had one, and proceeded to follow them, if I hadn’t already. The list of authors I tried to follow is in this link.

Thank you for hosting the challenge! :D

  16. Melanie

I follow several of my favorite authors on Social Media. :)

  17. Plethora

I added a bit of information on my update post

I followed two new authors, @HannahFKent and @VirginiaPye.

    Thanks for the challenge!

  19. Cassie L.

In preparing to read Scarlet, I found Meyer’s blog and started following her on Pinterest.
I just finished one of my challenge books and tried to leave a comment at the author’s blog…but post comments are all closed.

  24. Jorie

    Hallo Katie!

I came into this challenge for #boutofbooks a bit late in the day here, as I was happily *reading!* Chain Of Mercy! However, I sent out two tweets thus far one on behalf of the author of Chain of Mercy: Brenda S. Anderson. And, one on behalf of the upcoming Indie Pub / Self Pub authors that I am going to be reviewing on my blog starting tomorrow (Sunday) and going through Friday!! I will try to tuck in a few more tweets about authors I love before midnight! Personally, I am simply thankful to have found the hashtag, as I presume we can use it long after the Bout when we want to express our love for a particular author!? To me that is the best gift for the challenge itself! :)

The bookaway is lovely too, but ooh! I love Twitter movements! Esp the ones that are bookish & geeky to help encircle the world in booklove!

    Rock on!

ps: On my Updates Post for today which posts tomorrow I will include a whole section on this challenge & what “showauthorlove” means to me personally! :)

    • Jorie

ps: I am on the Author’s Street Team, therefore I am already connected to her by Twitter, blog, and newsletter! :) And, the reason I wanted to bring attention to the post I made about the other authors is because Indie Authors can always use extra booklove! :) I follow each of them on Twitter by the way,..

    • Wow Jorie, thanks for jumping into this so enthusiastically! I would love if people continue using the hashtag after today and to give credit where credit is due I should mention that the Bout of Books hosts came up with the hashtag. I love the idea of being on an author’s street team and just being really excited about doing everything you can to promote one particular author. That’s wonderful! :)

  25. Nicole Woods

Ah, I really liked this challenge! I did a shoutout tweet to 4 authors who have impacted my life in some way (sadly one of them is deceased :( ):

I always support authors by following them but I always wanted to start writing blog posts where I spotlight an author and this finally pushed me to do it! I started with one of my favorite authors, Morgan Matson! Check out my post:

Thanks for the giveaway and challenge!

    • Great post! I’ve been making a point of following authors lately, but I definitely need to go through my archives and make sure I’m following all the authors I love. I also try to highlight poorly known authors by giving away their books for blogiversary giveaways and I love your idea of doing posts featuring your favorite authors.

  28. Louisa

Shout out to authors Robyn Peterson and Jessica Clare! These authors both have great eBook series that haven’t gotten much hype, but I believe they should get some love today!

Check out my blog post for more information on these authors:

  29. Frida Arriaga

Today I “liked” the Facebook page of the author of my favorite book The Historian, which is Elizabeth Kostova. That book has been my favorite since I was 11. And today I showed a little bit of love by liking her facebook page :)

Great challenge by the way, show love to authors is a big part of being a reader.

    • It’s wonderful that you’ve loved The Historian for so long. I’ve found that most of my childhood favorites don’t hold the same impact for me today, but I think I should revisit more of them. I’m glad you enjoyed the challenge! :)

  30. Jessica @ Book Reviews from a Christian Gal

I also gave promoted Cidney Swanson’s novels on twitter:
