I tried the Parasol Protectorate series a while back and couldn’t get into it… maybe I’ll give it a try again, haha. :S

It’s definitely a genre worth trying. In my experience, it often involves very interesting world building and I like the sort of alternate history feel of it. Plus if you like it, there are tons of books out there to jump into

I kind of wish I’d written more about this aspect of the book in my review. At the beginning, Eyelet ends up at Urlick’s house out in the woods and there are all sorts of Gothic elements- creepy living fog outside the house, weird screams at night inside the house, strange inventions Eyelet doesn’t understand yet. So even though this is advertised as steampunk, I do think fans of gothic stories might like it equally well

Cliff hangers are not my favorite, but overall this was a really enjoyable book. If you’d like to try more steampunk, I loved both this one and the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger

Oh, you should definitely give it a try! I’ve only read this and The Parasol Protectorate but I thought the steampunk elements in both were a ton of fun.
